EU AI Act: GPAI Rules Now in Effect

The EU AI Act has reached a major milestone. As of August 2, 2025, obligations for General-Purpose AI (GPAI) models are active. Providers must now meet transparency, documentation, and risk management standards if their models are accessible in the EU.

These requirements include publishing technical details, disclosing limitations, and allowing downstream developers to comply with EU law. Full enforcement begins in 2026, with some product-embedded AI rules extending into 2027.

Why this matters: Any company offering AI services in the EU—directly or via integrations—must demonstrate compliance.
